Every once in a while, something comes along that changes everything. myTVR, an outsourced video recording service, certainly falls into that category. By allowing users to record any show on free-to-air TV and then watch it as streaming video via a Web browser, iPhone or iPod touch, or Nokia smartphone, myTVR is pioneering a significant new model for watching TV.

One of the biggest problems with conventional tablets is the disconnect between where you gesture with the pen, and where the mouse appears. Practice makes perfect when it comes to mastering these gestures, but wouldn't it be easier if you could draw directly onto the screen? Hanvon has tried to offer an easier solution with its SenTIP tablet – and, for the most part, it succeeds.

We’ve tasted a few different types of apples in our time, so we can say authoritatively that the McIntosh is among the tastiest cultivars you’re likely to come across.

Like it or not, the good old tape-based video camera is well and truly on its way out the door. Buoyed by advances in compression technology, tiny flash memory-based devices are setting the agenda in the video market, with tiny bodies and ever-improving features. Samsung's VP-MX20C delivers both, with more good points than bad, to stand as a decent example of how flash-based video cameras are evolving.

It was only when I began watching a movie on the ceiling that I came to appreciate how a home theatre projector – one of a class of products that has always been far too expensive and esoteric for most people to contemplate – can in fact improve the viewing experience.

As a writer, my everyday research process involves researching and collating information from a range of sources, then synthesising it, along with my own value-adds, into interesting new stories. For this purpose – and many others – there isn't much I could ask for that isn't provided by Circus Ponies Software's Notebook 3.0.

If you find the speaker on the new iPod touch far too tinny to tolerate for long, or you have an earlier-model iPod that doesn't have a speaker, you've probably considered buying a decent iPod dock. If you tend to listen to music in lots of places around your house while doing other things, you could do worse than the Gear4 Duo.

When we get products for review, journalists are usually very careful to be as gentle as possible so as to not damage them. But when the promotional literature features said product being run over with a car and chewed by a dog, well, we can't help but take that as license to get a little rough. Oh, yeah.

This morning Apple released a new version of its iPhone SDK for developers. iPhone SDK beta 2 includes Interface Builder, a component of Apple’s development tools that lets developers create the interface for their applications. That seems to be the only major change in the latest build, according to the SDK’s read me, which continues to list some known issues. Apple says “this second beta is known to be incompatible with installation folders other than the default /Developer.” Given the importance of UI on the Mac, Interface Builder is a pretty critical tool in the development process, and some developers had chosen to hold off on their efforts until the SDK was revised. Apple unveiled the iPhone SDK at a special event earlier this month, allowing developers to begin building applications for the iPhone and iPod touch. Several high-profile companies have already jumped onboard, demoing their applications at the event. Highlighting the demos was AOL with a native AIM client; other applications from Electronic Arts, Salesforce.com, and Apple were also shown.
